How to boost your website’s conversion rates

Oct 23, 2023

If you’re reading this, you probably have a website already but are struggling to convert those visitors into loyal customers. Boosting your website conversion rates doesn’t have to be rocket science. It’s actually all about getting inside the head of those you want to serve. Let me tell you how…

Know your people

Before we dive into tactics and strategies, let’s talk about the basics. Understanding your audience is crucial and it’s important to speak to them in the right way.

To convert visitors into customers, you need to know your audience’s pain points, desires, and needs. Spend some quality time researching and building a customer persona. Understand their behavior, preferences, and language, just like you do with your friends. Remember this is something that will evolve over time alongside your business, so this is a task to visit often as your business grows.

Create a user-friendly experience

Think about your website as a cozy cafe or shop for your potential clients to spend their time. Nobody wants to visit a messy or confusing place, and it’s important to remember that confused people don’t buy. Create a user-friendly experience by doing the following:

Make your website user-friendly by firstly having clear navigation. Your website visitors will need to be told what to do, so ensure they can easily find what they’re looking for and that you drive them towards your goals of enquiring, signing up to your list or buying from you.

Make sure your site is fast loading. We are all super impatient and time is precious, so a slow-loading website can turn visitors away. Make sure to optimize your site’s speed for a great experience and to keep visitors on your site.

It goes without saying; mobile responsiveness is also a must. Your site should be as approachable on mobile as it is on desktop.

Call-to-action buttons should be like a friendly invitation, not a demand. Use bright, contrasting colors and clear, action-oriented text to lead your website visitors on to what you want them to do next.

Tell a relatable story

Stories have a magical way of connecting people, and your website should be no different. Share your brand’s story in a relatable and authentic way. Make sure not just to tell your story just for the sake of it, but relate it back to your ideal clients, their pain points and help them understand that you get it and you are the one to help them with their problem.Focus on how you can help your audience by telling your story

Speak their language

Thinking about how you adapt what you say and how you say it based on who you’re talking to? Your website should do the same. Use the language and phrases your audience uses in your content. Really get inside the head of your ideal clients and speak to them in the way thwy would like to be spoken to.

Build trust

Trust is the foundation of any relationship; business or otherwise, and the same goes for your website. Show your visitors you’re trustworthy by:

Displaying social proof: Reviews and testimonials show that you can be trusted to do the job and that you offer a transformation to your clients. Let your customers do the talking about how you helped them solve their problem. You can even create specific case studies to showcase on your site and help your potential clients understand exactly how you helped solve specific problems for your previous clients.

Be transparent about the investment of working with you: There are two schools of thought on whether you should be open about your pricing. On the whole though, it’s important to provide, at the very least, guide prices so that people browsing your site have an idea of how much to expect to pay to work with you.

Offer valuable content

Creating valuable content for your website that answers your audience’s questions and provides solutions to their problems is key to driving more conversions. Some ideas on how you can provide this are:

Blogs: Share informative and engaging blog posts that answer your potential clients FAQs about your service, how to work with you and their pain points.

Videos: Create videos for those who might prefer to watch rather than read. Remember different people like to consume content in different ways, so create informative videos to cater to different preferences. This will also help with your site’s SEO.

Provide guides and ebooks: For those who want to dig a little deeper and who are further along the customer journey, provide free or low cost guides and ebooks.

Make it really easy to get in touch

If you make it complicated to get in touch with you, your website visitors simply won’t take the action. Provide multiple ways to get in touch, like having a chat box, contact form, and clear contact details. Remember that different people will have different preferences on how they want to contact you.

Optimize for search engines

Make sure your website can be found by your ideal clients in the first place. Optimize your site for search engines by:

Keyword Research: Use tools like Google Keyword Planner to find what you audience, are searching for.

Quality Content: Create high-quality content around those keywords like blog posts, vlogs and update your website copy.

On-Page SEO: Optimize your meta tags, alt text, and headings to make it easier for search engines to understand your content.

Be ready to adapt

Just as your business evolves, your website and conversion strategies need to evolve too. Keep an eye on your analytics and be ready to adapt based on what’s working and what’s not. Your website is never finished!

So, having a highly converting website is all about understanding, adapting, and creating a space where your ideal clients feel like you are directly addressing them.
