Call me a serial entrepreneur...

But that would make it sound like I knew what I was doing.

This is me circa 2009. I'd just come back from living in Cambodia, newly single, an English language teacher who'd just moved to London a few months before.

And this is my first attempt at running a business. I was button obsessed and loved crafting and making stuff. So I decided that making stuff should make me money. So with zero plan and zero business knowledge and absolutely no idea what I was doing I set up a stall on Brick Lane Market selling my handmade button wares.

I sold some stuff and I had lots of kind visits from proud friends and family to the stall. It was short lived though as I realised things wouldn't just sell because I thought they were cool.

💙I didn't know who my ideal clients were
💙I didn't know how much to sell stuff for
💙I didn't know how many I'd need to sell to even break even, let alone make a profit.

I guess at that time it was all a bit of fun and I've learned a lot about running a business since then. I now run a business that's actually sustainable.

She felt her brand wasn't consistent across platforms, her website that she created herself didn't reflect her vision and values and things needed a proper spruce up to help move her business forward. We have been working together over the last few months to bring life to het branding and create a website that not is not only very 'Sarah' but most importantly appeals to her ideal clients. But the most exciting and important part of this project has been that, as a Specialist Tutor and Assessor whose aim it is, is to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals who face challenges with dyslexia and literacy difficulties, all the design for this project needed to be accessible. That meant using a specific font, friendly colours and ensuring all text was readable and accessible. I jumped at the challenge of taking on this project, being that digital and website accessibility is increasingly important, not just for businesses like Sarah's but for us all to be considering as part of the design we create for the online world. I cannot wait to see what's around the corner for Assessing and Tutoring with Sarah. She is, not only one of the most highly qualified individuals I know, but she truly is a fountain of knowledge and really has so much to share and for all of us to learn about the world of literacy. One of the best parts of my job is working with business owners like Sarah who teach me so much about their area of expertise. Am I all set for Q4 and ready to hit the ground running for the 'back to school' back in the game rush??

No, I'm not...

1. I don't have kids so that doesn't relate to me.
2. I've had the busiest summer of amazing client projects (even busier than I was when running a wedding cake business and that's saying something!)
3. I'm currently on holiday and this is a scheduled post! Taking a break in September after the summer rush is something we are lucky enough to do
4. I don't like jumping on bandwagons and doing things other people do just for the sake of it

I'm taking a break at just the right time before things get a bit too much. With an amazing year in business has come a difficult year personally and I think these things affect us a lot more than we really think they do.

I'll be ready to take on whatever "Q" we are in when I get back to exciting new projects in October.

Am I all set for Q4 and ready to hit the ground running for the 'back to school' back in the game rush??

No, I'm not...

1. I don't have kids so that doesn't relate to me.
2. I've had the busiest summer of amazing client projects (even busier than I was when running a wedding cake business and that's saying something!)
3. I'm currently on holiday and this is a scheduled post! Taking a break in September after the summer rush is something we are lucky enough to do
4. I don't like jumping on bandwagons and doing things other people do just for the sake of it

I'm taking a break at just the right time before things get a bit too much. With an amazing year in business has come a difficult year personally and I think these things affect us a lot more than we really think they do.

I'll be ready to take on whatever "Q" we are in when I get back to exciting new projects in October.
