The Anti-Beige Philosophy: Why the best brands dare to be different

Jul 27, 2026

What is Anti-Beige branding?

The online world is noisier than ever. Every day we’re told to follow the latest trend, use the same templates, copy what’s already working and “play it safe”. Before long, businesses start looking and sounding remarkably similar.

That’s where my Anti-Beige philosophy comes in.

Anti-Beige isn’t about being louder. It isn’t about using bright colours for the sake of it or creating something shocking to grab attention. It isn’t about not using beige either, believe it or not… It’s about creating a brand that feels unmistakably you.

A brand with personality, purpose and confidence. One that reflects the experience you create and gives people a reason to remember you long after they’ve left your website.

The businesses people remember are rarely the ones trying to fit in.

Why so many brands blend into the background

One of the biggest mistakes I see is businesses trying to appeal to everyone and the result is safe messaging, predictable websites, identical stock photography and the same buzzwords everyone else is using.

Nothing is technically wrong with these brands, but nothing stands out either.

When your brand feels generic, your audience has no reason to remember you over the dozens of competitors they’ve also looked at.

People don’t buy because a business looks polished alone. They buy because they feel something.

Your personality is your competitive advantage

Every business has something that makes it different. It might be your story, your values, the way you communicate, the experience you create, or the tiny details that only you would think to include.

These are often the things business owners overlook because they feel ordinary to them, but they’re exactly what make your brand memorable.

I believe your quirks aren’t something to hide. They’re your biggest advantage.

Whether that’s a beautifully curated hotel breakfast, an unforgettable welcome at a wedding venue, an illustrated menu in an independent café or thoughtful packaging that makes customers smile, these details tell a story far bigger than a logo ever could.

Branding is about creating an experience

Branding doesn’t stop at your visual identity. It’s every interaction someone has with your business.

The words on your website, the emails you send, your photography, your social media, your packaging, or the way you answer the phone.

The little moments that make someone think, “That felt different.”When every touchpoint works together, your business becomes easier to recognise, easier to trust and far more memorable.

That’s the heart of my Anti-Beige philosophy.

How illustration and creativity bring brands to life

One of the reasons I’m so passionate about illustration and collage is that they bring a layer of personality that templates simply can’t.

Custom illustrations, playful icons, textures and hand-crafted details create a visual language that’s uniquely yours.

They tell people this brand has been thoughtfully created rather than assembled from whatever happened to be trending.

The goal isn’t to decorate a brand. It’s to deepen it, and to create something with character, warmth and individuality that people instinctively connect with.

How to make your brand less beige

If your brand has started to feel a little generic, ask yourself:

  • Does my website reflect the quality of my business today?
  • Could someone recognise my brand without seeing my logo?
  • Am I showing enough of my personality?
  • Does every touchpoint tell the same story?
  • What would people genuinely remember after interacting with my business?

Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference.

Maybe it’s a clearer message, more consistent visuals, better storytelling,  original illustrations or more confidence to show the people behind the business.

These are the things that transform brands from forgettable into memorable.

Ready to move beyond beige?

Your business deserves more than a beautiful logo or a nice-looking website.

It deserves a brand that reflects who you are, connects with the right people and gives them a reason to choose you.

That’s what Anti-Beige branding is all about.

If your brand feels like it’s blending into the background, my Anti-Beige Brand Audit is the perfect place to start. Together we’ll uncover what’s working, what’s holding your brand back and where you can inject more personality, clarity and consistency to create a business people genuinely remember.

Life’s too short for beige brands.

Is your brand feeling a bit “off”, but you can’t put your finger on why? That’s exactly what my Anti-Beige Brand Audit is designed to uncover. A focused, honest look at what’s not quite working in your brand and what needs to shift so everything feels clearer, more aligned, and easier to grow from.
