Why your brand is blending in and 5 ways to make it memorable

Jul 20, 2026

Have you ever looked at your brand and thought, something’s missing?

Maybe your visuals look nice, your website says all the right things, and you’re posting consistently on social media. But despite all that effort, your brand still feels a bit “beige” and a bit forgettable.

The truth is, memorable brands aren’t built by shouting louder or following every new trend. They’re built by uncovering what already makes them different.

If you want to create a brand people recognise, remember and recommend, it all starts with clarity.

What is an “Anti-Beige” brand?

An anti-beige brand isn’t about being the loudest in your industry. It’s about being unmistakably you. I spoke about this in a lot more depth in one of my previous posts on why your quirks are your competitive advantage.

Think about the brands you love. Chances are, you don’t remember them because they use the trendiest colours or the fanciest logo. You remember them because they have a clear personality, a strong point of view and a consistent experience.

Your audience should be able to recognise your brand before they even see your logo. That’s the power of brand clarity.

Why so many small business brands blend into the background

One of the biggest mistakes business owners make is focusing on the visual side of branding before they’ve defined the foundations.

A logo can’t communicate your personality on its own. Neither can a colour palette or a set of fonts.

Without knowing what you want to be known for, who you’re here to help and what makes your business different, it’s easy for your brand to start looking and sounding like everyone else’s.

That’s when content becomes difficult, messaging feels inconsistent and attracting the right clients becomes harder than it needs to be.

Start with clarity before creativity

Before choosing colours or redesigning your website, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What do I want to be known for?
  • Who am I really here to help?
  • What makes my approach different?
  • How do I want people to feel after interacting with my brand?
  • What do I want people to remember about me?

These questions uncover the foundations of a memorable brand.

Once you have those answers, every decision becomes easier, from your messaging and visuals to the content you create.

Your personality is your biggest brand asset

Your brand personality is what turns a business into something people connect with.

It’s your tone of voice, your values, your perspective and the little details that make your business feel human.

Ask yourself:

  • If my brand walked into a room, how would people describe it?
  • What words do I want people to associate with my business?
  • What does my brand stand for?
  • What will my brand never be?

Sometimes defining what your brand isn’t is just as important as defining what it is.

For example, your brand might be:

  • Creative
  • Warm
  • Thoughtful
  • Playful

But it might never be:

  • Generic
  • Corporate
  • Trend-chasing
  • Forgettable

That clarity creates consistency across everything you do.

Why brand clarity makes content easier

One of the most common things I hear is:

“I never know what to post.”

But content isn’t usually the problem. A lack of brand clarity is.

When you know what you stand for, what your audience needs and what conversations you want to lead, content ideas come naturally.

Instead of chasing trends, you start creating content around a handful of core themes that reinforce your expertise and personality.

The result is less overthinking, more consistency and a brand that people begin to recognise.

Peel back the layers of your brand

The best brands aren’t invented overnight. They’re uncovered.

Every business has a story, a personality and a perspective that can’t be copied. Sometimes they’ve just been buried beneath comparison, trends and trying to appeal to everyone.

So here’s a question to leave you with:

If someone copied your logo tomorrow, what couldn’t they copy?

Your answer is where your strongest brand begins.
